what is the difference between an extension and an overlay?

On our booking page you will notice we offer services called "extensions" in 3 levels. The “extension” refers to any nail product that will extend the length of your nails to reach a particular style or aesthetic. Our specialty is gel-x which we recommend to everyone however not every client's nails are suited for this type of set. We also alternatively offer dip extension, builder gel extension, and hard gel extension which may work better for you. "Overlay" refers to any nail product that goes on top of the natural nail using your natural length and not extending it in any way. We recommend overlays for clients looking to grow their natural nails and oftentimes for people who work a lot with their hands.

What types of nail extension services do you offer?

Gel x extension- Full coverage gel tips placed and cured one by one on each nail. Curing occurs under a focused UV light. After prep and application we blend the tip to the nail and then polish.

O CAN BE FILLED

Dip extension- Standard nail tips applied with glue (in the same way acrylics start) then shaped, and dipped into a powder in multiple layers to form a thickness that is durable. (best recommended for clients with very oily nail beds)

X CANNOT BE FILLED

Builder gel extension- Standard nail tips applied with glue (in the same way acrylics start) then shaped and covered with a type of gel polish with a high viscosity that can be filled in similarly to acrylics. (Only recommended for short styles and nail fixes).

O CAN BE FILLED

Hard gel extension- Standard nail tips applied with glue or nails form stickers used to form the nail. Filed and shaped then covered in hard gel from a nail pot using a brush.

O CAN BE FILLED

Polygel- Standard nail tips applied with glue or nails form stickers used to form the nail; alternatively, gel-x is used as the base. This method is used to create claw nails and raptor nails as the product is thick and durable.

X CANNOT FILL

What do the different levels mean?

When referring to the overlay or extension services in the booking tab the levels are classified by the amount of time and level of difficulty of the nail design and application. Level one in both categories is the base price for any nail service with any design or style that does not exceed a certain time frame. Example any nail design that can be completed in the allotted time.
